Coastal Field Camp

The coastal field camp is the last week of the regular Kenya field camp which visits Mombassa and Kilifi. A second week (7 days) may be added (additional cost) to travel to Lamu. Students may earn 1 additional credit for the 2nd week.

Students will study:

  • observe ecology of coastal mangrove swamps (Milindi/Kilifi)
  • explore reefs and  ecology (Mombassa)
  • study near-shore sediment transport (Mombass to Milindi)
  • map Recent and Tertiary coastal sediments
  • map coastal morphology and sediments (Lamu)

Students who are proficient in SCUBA will have several opportunities to dive the reefs (additional cost). Students who are not proficient will snorkel.

We will stay at standard tourist lodges along the coast from Lamu to Mombassa.
