GE 4916 Field Geology of East/South Africa (6 credits) (Long description) The course will focus on the geology of South Africa in the vicinity of Cape Town and the East African Rift Valley in south-central Kenya. Students will map structures, identify lithologies, make cross-sections, produce geogic maps, measure section and cover all the basics  generally covered in a geologic field course. Students will spend 5-6 days/week in the field. Students will be expected to spend an average of two hours/day in the evening compiling and organizing notes, materials and samples or attending lectures and seminars. Maps and reports will be handed in at various times.
